Web of Science XML dataset

The Web of Science Core Collection is a comprehensive, multidisciplinary citation database curated by Clarivate that provides structured bibliographic and citation data for scholarly journals, books, and conference proceedings across the sciences, social sciences, arts, and humanities. The Indiana University Research Data Commons hosts the XML versions of multiple Web of Science Core Collection indexes, spanning publication years from 1900 through 2023, with coverage varying by index. The collection includes the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCI) and Social Sciences Citation Index (SSCI), which form the backbone of citation analysis for research in the natural sciences, engineering, medicine, and social sciences. It also includes the Arts & Humanities Citation Index (AHCI), which captures scholarly output in the humanities where citation practices differ from those in the sciences. To support research on scholarly communication beyond journals, the dataset incorporates the Book Citation Index for both Science (BSCI) and Social Sciences & Humanities (BHCI), indexing scholarly books and individual book chapters. Conference-based research output is represented through the Conference Proceedings Citation Index for Science & Technical fields (ISTP) and for Social Sciences & Humanities (ISSHP). In addition, the Emerging Sources Citation Index (ESCI) provides coverage of newer and regionally focused journals that are under evaluation for inclusion in the core citation indexes.
